Born Wale Folarin to Nigerian immigrant parents, the Washington D.C. native was poised to put the District of Columbia's hip-hop scene on the map in 2009. Wale first turned heads in 2006 with local hits "Dug Dug (Shake It)" and "Breakdown"--both influenced by the D.C. go-go sound. In '07, he caught the attention of DJ producer Mark Ronson, signing with Ronson's Allido label and releasing the single "Nike Boots." With a string of successful mixtapes and high-profile appearances under his belt, Wale inked a deal with Interscope in 2008 and began prepping his long-awaited debut LP.
