Godspeed You Black Emperor! Music
Artist Overview
A loose collective of mysterious Canadian musicians who formed in 1994, Godspeed You Black Emperor is as much a movement as a band. Though the bulk of their output is instrumental, they are heavily political. They've branched out into a number of side projects, including A Silver Mt. Zion and Do Make Say Think. Their dark, swirling sound takes elements from post-rock, progressive rock, and Wagnerian classical cadences, and injects a generous helping of noisy guitars and pounding, martial drums, making for a bold, dramatic whisper-to-a-scream effect.
