Los Angeles's Silversun Pickups play a brand of indie rock that weaves layered guitars and effects around surging, melodic tunes that recall Smashing Pumpkins. In addition to their gauzy instrumental sound, the interacting vocals of guitarist Brian Aubert and bassist Nikki Moninger are distinctive. The band's first EP PIKUL was released in 2005, and the band built a strong following in their hometown and elsewhere touring with Wolfmother and Snow Patrol, among others. In 2006 the band's full-length, CARNAVAS, appeared, adding fuel to their growing reputation and by the end of the decade, the act had cemented their position as one of the more eclectic regulars on alternative radio.
