One of the longest-running and most prominent ensembles in the popular duranguense style of regional Mexican music, Patrulla 81 formed, fittingly enough, in 1981, taking cues from the keyboard/percussion-heavy sound of Grupo Montez De Durango. Having resided in the United States, most notably California and Colorado, the act has built an impressive following on both sides of the Mexican-American border with its alternately festive and romantic cowboy-hat-brandishing aesthetic, and its albums (see 2009's successful QUIEREME MAS) frequently top the Billboard Latin charts.
