Belly Music
Artist Overview
Formed in 1991 by singer/guitarist Tanya Donelly, a key member of Boston's Throwing Muses and the first incarnation of the Breeders, Belly took the restless college-rock sound of both acts in a more melodic direction. The group's debut, STAR, featured the alternative radio hit "Feed the Tree," and expectations were high for a follow-up, with Belly even appearing on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. However, `95's KING fared poorly, and Donelly disbanded the ensemble, moving on to a solo career and motherhood, along with occasional reunions with her Muses mate and stepsister Kristin Hersh.
