Artist Overview
Born Rupert Parkes in England, producer and DJ Photek was one of the first stars of the jungle and drum-and-bass scene of the early 1990s. The dark atmosphere and rhythmic complexity of his early work (which can be found on the compilation FORM & FUNCTION) set the stage for seminal releases like 1997's MODUS OPERANDI. SOLARIS (2000) found Photek exploring dark house tracks and ambient noise, a direction the artist continues to mine on 12" releases on his own Photek Productions label. Photek is an active and in-demand remixer who occasionally does soundtrack work (he's contributed music to THE ANIMATRIX and DREAMLAND).
