Artist Overview
Founded in 1989 by singer Hope Sandoval and guitarist David Roback, formerly of the lauded Paisley Underground group the Rain Parade, Mazzy Star built on the earlier group's dark, psychedelic leanings but tempered the resultant moodiness with folk and blues elements. The California-based band's second album, SO TONIGHT THAT I MIGHT SEE, garnered Mazzy Star considerable attention, thanks to the spare college-rock hit "Fade Into You," which showcased Sandoval's beautifully sleepy vocals. After the subsequent outing, `96s AMONG MY SWAN, the ensemble went on extended hiatus, and Sandoval emerged with a few solo offerings, but the duo has never officially broken up, allowing for the possibility of new recordings.
