Los Van Van came to the forefront of the Cuban son scene in 1969, mixing their big, rich, highly danceable sound with topical lyrics, electric instruments, and strong jazz influences to create a new style called "songo." Among Cuba's most popular bands, Los Van Van successfully brings together the island's African roots and vibrant song traditions.
