Do You Know Where Your Children Are?
This provocative question is very familiar to late evening viewers of Fox 5 News. Every evening before the 10pm news, a celebrity face reminds parents to check on the well-being of their kids. J&R has been the proud sponsor of this important message for ten years.

Recent New York-area celebrities to ask the proverbial question include Joan Rivers, Darryl Strawberry, Jane Seymour, Paul Stanley of KISS, Reggie Jackson, Councilman Eric Gioia, Eddie K. Thomas, Anthony Anderson, Chazz Palminteri, and Joely Fisher.

Fox 5 has been so successful with this spot that thousands of parents ask the now-familiar question of themselves at 10pm, wherever they are. See Video

Rebuilding Downtown After 9/11
Like a phoenix rising from the rubble of the September 11 tragedy, J&R Music and Computer World reopened for business in October and, indeed, is now expanding. Our newest outlet, J&R Camera World, at 34 Park Row, gives the retail complex virtually an entire city block of stores.

Mayor Rudy Giuliani (now former Mayor) presided at the reopening of our retail stores. Calling J&R "a vital part of the redevelopment of Lower Manhattan", the Mayor remarked that he was "looking forward to buying CDs again" and promised "I will not buy CDs anywhere else".

In early 2002, Governor George Pataki held a press conference at J&R, announcing an aid package for lower Manhattan businesses. In February, the Governor, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Speaker Sheldon Silver officiated at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the grand opening of our Camera Outlet. Afterward, Mayor Bloomberg was spotted browsing for CDs.

There has been an avalanche of media attention about J&R, with stories in The New York Times, The Daily News, The New York Post, Crain's NY Business, Newsday, Time Magazine, Billboard, London Daily Telegraph, TWICE Magazine, Dealerscope, as well as numerous broadcast features, including Austrian radio, Fuji Japanese TV, and Italian TV. And J&R's CEO, Rachelle Friedman, is featured in a TV spot, sponsored by I Love NY, in which prominent business figures vow their support for New York.

J&R is proud of our role as a core business in Lower Manhattan and of our worldwide reputation for service, selection, and reliability. Come see us (click for directions) and find out what all the media attention is about.

Rachelle Friedman's Remarks At Gov. Pataki's Press Conference:
First, I would like to thank Gov. Pataki and Charles Gargano for inviting me here today and for including J&R in such a valuable and inspiring project for NY. As a member of the NY business community for the past 30 years and a proud New Yorker for a lifetime, I am honored to be a part of any campaign that helps bring businesses and consumers alike to NY, which has been, is, and forever will be, "Open for Business".

J&R Music and Computer World is proud to be the anchor retailer in Lower Manhattan... close as you can get to ground zero... and yet we are a symbol of the return to normalcy.

I don't have to stay in NY. I WANT to...or better yet...I need to stay in NY.

For I am a New Yorker who loves NY... and New Yorkers don't walk away from a challenge or from each other. We relish the chance to give everything we've got to renew and rebuild. We never gave a moment's thought to closing our doors. In fact, next week we plan on opening some new doors by expanding into a new camera store on Park Row, opposite City Hall Park, in Lower Manhattan.

Let me repeat, J&R is proud to be the anchor retailer in Lower Manhattan... close as you can get to Ground Zero... and yet we are a symbol of the return to normalcy. As you know, J&R was closed for 6 weeks, due to our proximity to the WTC. We spent those 6 weeks bringing in factory-fresh merchandise, new carpets, fresh paint and more, so that we could reopen the week of Oct. 22 and reveal a store that was exactly the same as it had been on Sept. 10. On the day we reopened, what had been a deserted area, once again became a bustling hub of business. Even our Great Mayor, Rudy Giuliani, was on hand that week to welcome J&R's loyal customers back to the downtown area.

We have been energized by the return of our customers. We are buoyed by the enthusiasm of the Governor's office, the Mayor's office and the Downtown Alliance... percolating with plans for the future. I have no doubt that we will work together to create a new NY... better than ever.

That is why we are so pleased to be a part of this critical campaign. By creating this commercial, we hope that Empire State Development will inspire other companies to come to New york and make it the fertile ground for business that it has always been. J&R pledges our support for the New York business community by continuing to work with our partners to make J&R the best and the biggest computer, music and electronics megastore there is. We hope other businesses will join us in being the best they can be in the best

In case you couldn't tell, "I Love New York."
