
Very similar to a compact disc player that is used in audio systems and even plays audio CDs. CD-ROMs, however, contain software that can be fairly intricate. That's because a CD holds 680MB of data. ROM stands for Read Only Memory. This means that you can only use this drive to load pre-recorded software onto your PC. It has no capability to permit writing to the disc. There are, however, CD-W drives that permit writing to compact disc media.
