A disk drive format developed by Iomega that uses special removable disks. Each disk may be used like a floppy disk except that each JAZ disk has a storage capacity of 1GB to 2GB in a non-compressed mode. It can be used as an auxiliary drive or as a back-up system. A significant advantage of using JAZ disks over Tapes is that the computer may be operated with the JAZ disk, thereby reducing downtime in the event of a primary storage calamity.
