A Grand Welcome For J&R
Macy's got officially plugged in yesterday with the grand opening of J&R Express, a 3,300 square-foot spread of TVs, CDs, DVDs, digital cameras, computers and MP3 players. "I love it. I don't have to go all the way down near Ground Zero," said Eunice Brown, who works at a Verizon store near Mac's Herald Square and was shopping for DVDs during her lunch break.

The shop, which is located in Macy's Cellar and is J&R's first satellite store, is likely to draw in more male customers, as well as tourists and New Yorkers who work in the midtown area, said Patti Lee, senior vice president and general manager of Macy's Herald Square. "Clearly our customers have always been interested in what's new and what's fashionable, and electronics really fit that bill."

The store was already attracting midtowners. "I go all the way down to J&R on Broadway anyway, so this is great," said Michelle Henry, who works just a couple of blocks away and lives in Queens. "There's a wide variety, and the prices are reasonable. I've been going to them for years."

Comedian Steve Harvey, who was at the event promoting his new DVD, admits that while he's not so techno-savvy, he loves his Blackberry. With it, "I can communicate with people without having to speak with them," he said. "I can just type in 'Hell, no!'"
