Niles Audio MS210-BK Infrared Sensor for Remote Extender

Infrared remotes are an extremely wonderful technology. You can control your TV or Audio system from across the room without any wires! InfraRed or IR is great if you're using it in that room and if that remote is in-line with the component's sensor. RF (radio frequency) is an alternate signal used more by wireless and cellular phones than remotes. RF can go through walls but is less focused when used to control several functions on a device. RF has its limits as does IR. Now what if you had more than one A/V system in your home and wanted to control them in different areas? You'd need an InfraRed remote extender. The MS210 is a remote sensor that works in conjunction with the required (but not included) Niles MSU480 hub, and a flasher along the route - 3 key elements or devices. Niles MS210 is just one of them.
A remote extender uses IR and RF together to allow wireless control of wirelessly "connected" devices in those other rooms. It begins with your IR remote that's programmed to control the components in your system. When you press a command like "skip" or "play" from a secondary room, a tabletop transmitter changes the IR signal to RF, and sends it to an RF Receiver near your main A/V system. The RF receiver turns the signals back into IR, and passes these commands on to your A/V components via IR flashers. When the Niles MS210 sensor is connected to a component (i.e. TV or Receiver), that component is "seen" by the Niles system. By itself, however, the Niles MS210 is inoperable. It requires a compatible hub and a flasher.
