Hailed by controversial cult director Takashi Miike as his favorite film from his own prodigous output, the semi-autobiographical YOUNG THUGS--NOSTALGIA is the sequel to YOUNG THUGS--INNOCENT BLOOD. Set in Miike's hometown of Osaka, it follows a young boy poised to abandon his childhood world of reverie for adulthood. He lives with his eccentric family, who pass quickly between violence, dysfunction, humor and love. The director's attachment to the story, characters, and location are evident in this coming of age tale, which adds a startlingly touching and personal element to the characteristic Miike bloodshed, making this an emotionally compelling thriller.
