Sharks are among the most feared predators on Earth, although the threat that they pose to human beings has been greatly exaggerated by the media and films like JAWS. THE GREAT SHARK HUNT attempts to examine the creatures on their own terms and in their own environments. It looks at how important sharks are to the balance of their ecosystems, and how mankind's assault on the fish and on their habitats endangers that equilibrium. The film also studies how sharks may be vital to future cancer research, and chronicles efforts by scientists and fisherman to help and rescue the animals to ensure their continued existence. THE GREAT SHARK HUNT looks at the importance of the animals both to their natural environments and to human beings.
