Forming an amusing addition to the pantheon of British gangster films, NAILING VIENNA is the directoral debut of Jonathan English. A group of criminals realize the profitability of making a gangster film, and decide to set about filming their own version of a classic, if slightly hackneyed, tale. But when the group are duped into performing a real bank robbery during filming, their plans of stardom pan out for all the wrong reasons. A highly original play on conventional genre tropes, NAILING VIENNA is an auspicious debut for English, who complements his vision with an exceptional cast, and a neat, stylistic vision.
