Polish director Andrzej Munk (THE PASSENGER) helms this post-World War II comedy that is split into two parts. The first installment is titled "Scherzo Alla Polacca," and focuses on a young soldier with a drinking problem, whose attitude veers wildly depending on how much alcohol is circulating around his system. The second part of Munk's film is titled "Ostinato Lugubre," and involves a daring escape from a German prison during wartime. Despite having a galvanizing effect on his fellow prisoners, the escape attempt isn't quite as successful as it first appears.
