This South African version of Charles Dickens's classic tale is a wonderful reimagining set in early 21st-century Cape Town. The director took an unusual approach to the story and the fund-raising for this independent project. With his screenplay in hand, he hit the streets and was able to find 1,000 individual donors, each willing to put up 1,000 rand. Eventually he had enough to make this magical film that has stunned audiences across the globe.
