Despite his weak eyesight, Rudyard Kipling's son Jack was determined to serve in the military during World War I. Unlike many parents, Kipling was adamant that his son have the opportunity to see action and uphold the values that were a constant motif in his writing. By way of influence Jack finally made it to the front, never to return, and Kipling would spend years of his life trying to uncover his son's fate. This Masterpiece Theatre production is the story of one aspect of the writer's life that was more tragic than anything depicted in his adventure stories. Daniel Radcliffe takes off Harry Potter's robes to star in this serious drama.
