-- Tom Dawson
, (Total Film)
"[A] psychologically suspenseful, spare and contemplative neo noir....[With] a stunningly visual mastery of moods....Unpredictable and gratifying, THREE MONKEYS emerges as a mordant cautionary tale on the contagiousness of corruption." -- Kevin Thomas , (Los Angeles Times) "The long takes and exquisite compositions are still there, but this time Mr. Ceylan trains his cool, detached sensibility on a ripe and pulpy melodrama....The basic story is as tight and simple as a slipknot." -- A. O. Scott , (New York Times) 4 stars out of 5 -- "Ceylan orchestrates all the elements of his film into a gripping experience of manipulation and retribution, with an ironic final twist." -- Ed Scheid , (Box Office) "THREE MONKEYS tackles a more amorphous -- and universal -- sense of desire and culpability at the expense of the postcard specificity of Ceylan's previous work, while at the same time tapping into something larger..." -- Film Comment Staff , (Film Comment) 3 stars out of 4 -- "[A]n elegant exercise with four characters trapped by class, guilt and greed....The film has extraordinary beauty." -- Roger Ebert , (Chicago Sun-Times)
