Christmas Time All Over the World - Sammy Davis, Jr. (previously unreleased)
To listen to sound clips, you'll need the most current version of the
Performer: Various Artists/The Rat Pack
Distributor: EMI Music Distribution Notes: Full performer name: Frank Sinatra/Dean Martin/Sammy Davis Jr. Compilation producers: Frank Collura, Charles Pignome. Includes liner notes by James Ritz. All tracks have been digitally remastered. Audio Remasterer: Bob Norberg. Those who prefer a martini to a glass of egg nog should appreciate Christmas With the Rat Pack. Featuring various Christmas and holiday classics performed by Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., and Dean Martin, this is a stellar collection that sets an elegantly hip mood. The big surprise is that while the Rat Pack is commonly associated with '60s nightclub irreverance, the tracks compiled here showcase their softer, more reflective sides. Sinatra does his best choirboy take on "The Christmas Waltz" and Martin veritably melts into "Baby, It's Cold Outside." One complaint: A few more Davis cuts could have been included. Nonetheless, Christmas With the Rat Pack is a toasty one. ~ Matt Collar Those who prefer a martini to a glass of egg nog should appreciate Christmas With the Rat Pack. If you're sick of the usual pap that passes for Christmas music from all corners of the stylistic map, try something from the swingin' side of town. Really now, wouldn't you rather hear such chestnuts (pun intended) as "Silver Bells," "The Christmas Song," and "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear" from the likes of these cats than some contemporary prefab pop or country cardboard cutout? Those aren't sleighbells you hear in the background, they're ice cubes clinking in a martini glass. |
