Engineer: Vadim Chislov; Javier Galvez; Vincent "Life" Shaw Producer: Bone Thugs-N-Harmony; Rick Rock; David Frederic; L.T. Hutton; DJ U-Neek; The Co Stars; Jose "Harvy Dent" Morales; Justin "Blaze" Madrigal; Alvin "Stone" Clark; Noel "Detail" Fisher Distributor: RED Distribution Notes: Personnel: The Co Stars (various instruments); LaReece (background vocals). Uniting 13 unreleased group tracks that Bone Thugs-N-Harmony have recorded over their career since their 1994 debut, T.H.U.G.S. provides a sort of subsurface overview of the crew's journey. Rough-edged and less polished than the tracks that saw light on their major label releases, the cuts that make up this compilation lack a concern for mass appeal and thus see the Bone MCs coming with stunning lyrical aggression. Highlights include "Unstoppable," "Don't Waste My Time," and "Remember Yesterday."
Proteges of the late Erick "Eazy-E" Wright, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony quickly found a mass audience for their unique style, a predecessor of the South's screwed up movement. With a combination of syrupy R&B harmonies with gang-banger imagery and double-time, tongue-twisting rhymes reminiscent of the East Coast raggamuffin style, the five Bones (each of whom would have solo careers) earned their place in the hip-hop pantheon. "Tha Crossroads," a rare and elegiac ballad on death and the hood, became one of the biggest pop hits of the 1990s.
