Performer: Various Artists/Thomas Kinkade
Distributor: Madacy Distribution Notes: A collection of Christmas favorites gathered under the auspices of the New Age "Painter of Light" (who improbably started his career as an apprentice to counter-culture animator Ralph Bakshi), TREASURY OF CHRISTMAS is a testament to the lure of the Thomas Kinkade brand name as well as the featured performers. Regardless, you really can't go wrong with any collection that includes Brenda Lee, Dame Joan Sutherland, and Wayne Newton (the latter's rendition of "Christmas Isn't Christmas Without You" is a little-heard gem of Yuletide musical memorabilia). Dean Martin croons "Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow" (which has always carried the charming aura of having been recorded in Las Vegas in mid-July), and Guy Lombardo provides the final touch of seasonal cheer. Much like egg nog, sweet sherry, and Kinkade's own paintings, TREASURY OF CHRISTMAS is both sugary sweet and mysteriously comforting.
