An anomaly in 1977, this full-blown symphonic rock opera was German prog-rockers Grobschnitt's tour-de-force, a bid to be taken as seriously as their heroes, Genesis and Yes. The story of a day-dreaming boy, his friend Mariboo the bird, and their trip to the harsh city of Severity Town is told in a bold flourish of synthesizers, strings, yowling guitar riffs, and impassioned vocals. While it's widely regarded as a misstep in the band's career, listeners 30 years later will find much musical goodness amidst the preciousness. The 2007 CD reissue contains a 16-minute live track and extensive notes in German and English.
