Performer: B.B. King
Producer: Jim Dollarhide
Distributor: Universal Distribution

Notes: Personnel: B.B. King (vocals); Charlie Dennis (guitar); Walter Riley King (flute); Melvin Jackson (saxophone); Stanley Abernathy, James "Boogaloo" Bolden (trumpet); James Toney (keyboards); Reggie Richards (bass guitar); Calep Emphrey Jr. (drum). Legendary bluesman B.B. King had reached his 80th year when this concert was recorded, but he was investing as much energy as ever into his soulful singing and crisp, precise guitar solos. In the latter part of his career, health issues caused King to perform sitting down, but that didn't stop him from serving up a mess of blues that's electric in every sense of the word. The throaty wail and emotive picking that power this selection of classics from King's vast repertoire ("Rock Me Baby," "The Thrill Is Gone," "Why I Sing the Blues") display as much intensity of feeling and singularity of purpose as you'll find in even the earliest of the blues giant's recordings.
Dirty Linen (p.66) - "With an orchestra following his lead-guitar riffs, there's a real jazzy feel to the arrangements and song structures."
The great Memphis guitarist and singer B.B. King has been the most high-profile figure in blues since the 1960s, ever since his LIVE AT THE REGAL album established him as a superstar. King has collaborated successfully with everyone from Bobby Bland to U2, but he made his name as a soulful, enthusiastic bandleader. His beloved Gibson ES-345 guitar, "Lucille," is the source of King's trademark sound--percussive attack, dramatic string-bending, and spare lead lines with a vocal-like quality.
