The sophomore effort from San Diego rockers Louis XIV proves that the taut, glam-tinged rock of THE BEST LITTLE SECRETS ARE KEPT, the band's debut, was no fluke. SLICK DOGS AND PONIES delivers more of Louis XIV's edgy, playful sound. The lead-off single "Guilt by Association," a catchy romp with dancey punch, is a perfect example. But Louis XIV has pushed its boundaries a bit, too. With composer David Campbell providing string arrangements, SLICK DOGS has a lush, expansive sound. In combination with the band's stylish rock, the orchestral flavor gives a delicious twist to this fine follow-up, one that will have fans putting their copies on repeat.
