Performer: Edith Piaf
Distributor: Redeye Music Distribution

Notes: Liner Note Author: Bill Dahl. Budget-priced Edith Piaf compilations are everywhere, and while the majority of them are decent enough, it's hard to sift through all of the dirt in the pan to get to such a miniscule piece of gold. The Great American label's The Passion of the Little Sparrow is no exception, boasting 16 tracks, including a handful of live performances. There's not a bad track to be found, but for newbies just looking to own something with "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien" on it, Capitol's The Voice of the Sparrow: The Very Best of Edith Piaf is still the best bet. ~ James Christopher Monger
France's "Little Sparrow" was the stuff of legend. Edith Piaf remains one of the most influential singers of the 20th century. Her dramatic singing style and her anguished voice appealed to French audiences and by the outbreak of World War II she had become a star. After the war, Piaf's reputation spread internationally and she appeared in New York, singing at Carnegie Hall. In her private life Piaf was as tormented as the heroines of her songs. She had many tumultuous relationships, most causing her severe emotional damage that was reflected in her passionate performances.
