Performer: Robyn
Distributor: Universal Distribution Notes: THE RAKAMONIE EP, a companion piece of sorts to the self-titled comeback, pairs Robyn's oddball hip-hop single "Konichiwa Bitches" with four previously unreleased tracks. The Swedish songstress has more going on behind the hooks than at first it may appear. Both re-workings from ROBYN, the mournful ballad version of "Be Mine" and the breezy acoustic take on "With Every Heartbeat" reveal an emotional depth behind the pop diva's acrobatic vocals; meanwhile, the unlikely set closer, a vaudevillian re-imagining of Prince's "Jack U Off," reveals a pop artist unafraid of risks.
Swedish pop diva Robyn began writing songs when she was 11, and was still at school when she launched a music career. Robyn enjoyed instant success with the melodic urban pop track "Do You Really Want Me". Her debut album was re-released in America in 1997, and generated two Top 10 pop hits with "Do You Know (What It Takes)" and "Show Me Love". After refusing to have her follow-up effort, MY TRUTH, re-recorded for the U.S., Robyn retreated to her native Stockholm to regroup. After almost a decade away, Robyn re-appeared with a set of thrilling electro-pop tunes. The first fruits of her new direction--2006's "The Rakamonie EP"--on her own Konichiwa label led to a licensing deal with V2 Records in the U.K. Her long-awaited third album, ROBYN, was finally released in April 2007.
