Distributor: Universal Distribution Notes: Verve Records has been releasing their reasonably-priced Pure Bossa Nova series through the years, but the 50th anniversary of the bossa nova style in 2008 saw the reissue of many of the compilations, as well as some new entries. One of the more obscure Brazilian jazz luminaries, Sylvia Telles, gets her due here. Telles was possessed of a silken voice that trilled sweetly at the top of her register then swooped seductively down to alto. She was one of the first recording artists to commit the new bossa style to vinyl, and her 1959 sophomore album is considered to be the first purely bossa nova long-player. This collection gathers her best work, recorded between the late '50s and her untimely death in 1966.
