Notes: Whether you know him as the precocious teen who debuted in 1997 with EVERYTHING YOU WANT, or as R&B siren Brandy's brother and costar of her show Moesha, Ray J shows that he's all grown up on ALL I Feel. His fourth album finds him working every angle of contemporary R&B, from the hip-hop-influenced "Sexy Can I" (which includes a guest appearance from rapper Yung Berg) to the reflective, melodic "Jump Off," which reflects the singer's more contemplative, sensitive side. Whatever the mode, his delivery is both effective and seemingly effortless.
The brother of fellow R&B artist and television star Brandy Norwood, William Raymond Norwood was signed to Elektra while still in his early teens and released his 1997 debut, EVERYTHING YOU WANT, before his 17th birthday. The Keith Crouch-produced album contained a mixture of dancefloor-ready, Usher-influenced R&B and ballads aimed at the teen market. Its follow-up, the slightly more earnest THIS AIN'T A GAME, featured a number of outstanding Neptunes-produced tracks and is regarded as Ray J's best work. His subsequent releases on Sanctuary and Koch worked to duplicate that record's effortless fusion of slick R&B hooks and sophisticated, hip-hop-inflected production.
