Distributor: Universal Distribution Notes: Listening to norteno/banda king Lupillo Rivera's EL TIRO DE GRACIA out of context, a neophyte might be put off by the fact that Rivera's rich, passionate vocals are backed by what sounds like a largely electronic approximation of traditional banda/mariachi instruments. But much like the contemporary soul-blues sound that's been big on the so-called "chitlin circuit" since the `80s, the electronic versions of old-school Mexican sounds have become an aesthetic of their own, creating a brand-new tradition that Rivera inhabits with seeming ease on this Grammy-nominated release.
