Recorded at Mushrooms Studios, Vancouver, Canada between May and June 2003. Marcy Playground: Woz (vocals, guitar); Dylan (vocals, bass guitar); Gonz (vocals, drums, percussion). Marcy Playground kept the grunge flame alive long after the demise of the first wave, playing punky, guitar-driven rock that recalls Nirvana and other pioneers of the genre well into the 21st century. One can only assume that the title of the band's 2004 album, MP3, was an attempt to sound au courant, a statement that Marcy Playground are fully digitized and not necessarily stuck in the early 1990s. Given that the band's sound on MP3 strays little from their earlier efforts, the claim is a little dubious, but that's more a strength than a liability. Tunes like "Blood in Alphabet Soup" and "Punk Rock Superstar" thump with the same gritty punch fans have come to expect, and John Wozniak's nasal vocalizing and incisive, sometimes bitter lyrics still create a sense of angst and urgency. Updated? Not really, but that's exactly what fans will appreciate. The disc was enhanced and reissued in 2008.
