Post-hardcore outfit A Skylit Drive followed up their debut EP with the full-length WIRES & THE CONCEPT OF BREATHING in 2008. A Skylit Drive mix emo, screamo, and punk/metal sonics for a concoction that is half melodic, half noise assault. Singer Michael Jagmin switches between growls, screams, and clean singing, while the rest of the band creates a thunderous backing full of chugging riffs and battering-ram rhythms. WIRES doesn't quite rewrite the post-hardcore rulebook, but it is a solid effort from a band that should appeal to fans of Chiodos and Taking Back Sunday
A Skylit Drive is a Lodi, California-based six-piece who operate in the post-hardcore continuum of the 2000s, combining pop-leaning emo influences with the harder edged sounds of metalcore and screamo. Formed while the original members were attending high school, the group issued an EP, SHE WATCHED THE SKY, in 2007. A round of personnel changes ensued and in 2008, their debut full-length, WIRES. AND THE CONCEPT OF BREATHING, appeared, breaking the Billboard Top 200. An exclusive DVD for teen clothing outlet Hot Topic appeared in late-2008, along with a follow-up album, ADELPHIA, in 2009.
