Performer: Fleetwood Mac
Engineer: Trip Khalaf; Richard Dashut Distributor: WEA (Distributor) Notes: Recorded on the "Tusk" tour, October 1979-September 1980. Fleetwood Mac: Lindsey Buckingham (vocals, guitar); Christine McVie (vocals, keyboards); Stevie Nicks (vocals); John McVie (bass); Mick Fleetwood (drums). Additional personnel: Ray Lindsey (guitar); Jeffrey Sova (keyboards); Tony Todaro (percussion). Producers: Fleetwood Mac, Richard Dashut, Ken Caillat. Recorded during the 1979-1980 Tusk tour, FLEETWOOD MAC LIVE is a 2-disc collection of performances from locations as far flung as Tokyo, Paris and London. This incarnation of Fleetwood Mac was at its creative peak as Lindsey Buckingham, Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks took turns out front with nary a weak link in their respective compositions be it "Monday Morning," "Say You Love Me" or "Dreams." Although the bulk of material played during this tour was from the Buckingham/Nicks era of the band, the guitarist's hard-hitting take on "Oh Well" does justice to the blues legacy of Fleetwood Mac founder Peter Green. The magical synergy the Mac achieved in a live setting never varied whether they were doing "Over My Head" before a crowd of 14,000 plus in St. Louis or "Dreams" during a Parisian soundcheck. This edict held true as the band played a three-song set of "Fireflies," "One More Night" and "The Farmer's Daughter" before a small audience of friends and road crew at the Santa Monica Auditorium. Of particular interest is the "The Farmer's Daughter," a song that fully exploits Fleetwood Mac's exquisite vocal harmonies and was written specifically for the band by Brian Wilson.
Making endless shifts in personnel and style, Fleetwood Mac went from being one of the most original British blues bands of the 1960s--under the leadership of Peter Green and Mick Fleetwood--to becoming purveyors of a smooth, masterful L.A. pop aesthetic that conquered the American airwaves during the '70s. Their most successful album, 1977's RUMOURS--featuring the group's most well-known lineup of Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, and Stevie Nicks--is one of the best-selling records of all time. Although never quite able to repeat that success, the band continued touring and recording off and on for the next three decades in various incarnations.
