Notes: This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
The string of R&B/pop crossover hits enjoyed by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes in the early-to-mid-1970s serves as a quintessential primer on the Philly soul sound. Like many of their contemporaries, the group had roots in '50s R&B, but created a new paradigm that melded '70s funk, '60s soul, pure pop hooks, lush orchestral arrangements, and protean disco production touches. Their stellar Philly International catalog includes such iconic tunes as "If You Don't Know Me By Now," "The Love I Lost," and "Bad Luck." Melvin continued fronting various versions of the Blue Notes until he was felled by a stroke in 1996, and died the following year.
