Performer: Various Artists
Distributor: Gotham Distributing Corp. Notes: Disc two of the Collectables label's Top Hits of the 50s collection features 20 "Rockin' Hits" that range from straight-up saddle-shoe and poodle-skirt boogie ("Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On" by Jerry Lee Lewis) to martini-blurred schmaltzy vocal pop ("Tammy" by Debbie Reynolds). Its schizophrenic nature keeps it firmly in the "accept it as a gift" category, but enough great tracks are here to warrant more than just a passing glance. However, listeners looking to re-create the their own be-pop radio station should look elsewhere, as this collection hardly lives up to its "Rockin'" moniker. ~ James Christopher Monger
