Performer: B.B. King
Distributor: Universal Distribution

Notes: This 12-cut super budget compilation by B.B. King -- that contains no annotation whatsoever as to where these "hits" originated -- is basically another come-on by Universal to get fans to either A: plunk down money one more time for hits they may already have in several places or, B: to cheaply acquaint a new generation with the work of King. Either way, the package -- all but devoid of photos -- boasts that there is a download coupon inside to get to a free podcast and "other great digital music offers," which hardly makes it worth spending a dollar on, particularly when the company has no less than four other excellent and annotated compilations available for budget prices. While the music here is solid, it is all but totally useless as an introduction without any context to create a sense of place and time. ~ Thom Jurek This 12-cut super budget compilation by B.B. The great Memphis guitarist and singer B.B. King has been the most high-profile figure in blues since the 1960s, ever since his LIVE AT THE REGAL album established him as a superstar. King has collaborated successfully with everyone from Bobby Bland to U2, but he made his name as a soulful, enthusiastic bandleader. His beloved Gibson ES-345 guitar, "Lucille," is the source of King's trademark sound--percussive attack, dramatic string-bending, and spare lead lines with a vocal-like quality.
