Performer: The Four Seasons
Engineer: Gordon Clark Producer: Bob Crewe Distributor: WEA (Distributor) Notes: Audio Mixers: Ben Leibrand; Les Adams; Nigel Wright. Arranger: Charles Calello. Combining 1963's Big Girls Don't Cry and Twelve Others, 1975's Who Loves You and 1995's dance remix album Oh What a Night in a fancy tin box, this Four Seasons package feels like it's all over the map and in the end is a whole lot of fuss over not much at all. The Four Seasons were a brilliant singles group, but their albums always had a fair amount of filler tracks, and there are a ton of those scattered here between the hits "December 1963 (Oh What a Night)," "Walk Like a Man," "Big Girls Don't Cry," and "Who Loves You." But you do get a nice tin box, though. ~ Steve Leggett
In the 1960s, Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons churned out hit after hit to become one of the most successful vocal groups in pop history. Their signature was Valli's stratospheric falsetto, but their success also resulted from sharp, melodic songwriting. During their prime, singles like "Sherry" and "Walk Like a Man" emphasized close-harmony singing with an urban swagger, providing the missing link between doo wop and Motown-era pop. The group topped the charts again in the '70s with an updated, disco-influenced sound. There was a resurgence of interest in the Four Seasons in the early 2000s thanks to the hugely successful Broadway musical JERSEY BOYS about the history of the beloved group.
