Performer: D-Block
Engineer: Jesus "Poobs" Fernandez Producer: Jesus "Poobs" Fernandez; Vinny Idol Distributor: Redeye Music Distribution Notes: Audio Mixer: Jesus "Poobs" Fernandez. Recording information: Aspect Studios, NC; D-BLOCK Studios, Yonkers, NY. A long-awaited (and oft-pushed-back) mixtape featuring the extended D-Block family, but with a hearty offering of new rhymes by the three core members (The LOX: Sheek Louch, Styles P, Jadakiss), 2009's PREPARE FOR GLORY is essentially a showcase for in-house super-producer Poobs. While other members of the sprawling collective drop in to offer the occasional spare beat, a majority of the tracks spin from the mind of the tireless New Yorker. It's a smooth mix, as Poobs's beats are simple but solid, and while D-Block's satellite rappers are hit-or-miss, the LOX are practically incapable of phoning it in.
The Yonkers trio of Jadakiss, Styles P, and Sheek Louch, long known as the hardcore rhyme force the LOX, rechristened themselves in 2001 as D-Block. Where the former was a closed unit of three, D-Block added a ginormous supporting crew, building a stable of rappers approaching Wu-Tang dimensions. D-Block's rolling out was slow and steady while the three central MCs concentrated on solo careers, but late in the decade the mixtapes started to come in a flurry as they were ready to unveil their anarchic, adventurous new sound.
