Performer: Bone Thugs-N-Harmony
Artist: Layzie Bone; Chamillionaire; Johnny P.; Big Sloan Engineer: The Jaz Producer: Vince V.; S. White Distributor: E1 Distribution (USA) Notes: Audio Mixer: Steve Vicious. Recording information: Batkave Studios; Good Guy Studios; Nick Cannon's Studio "Can I Ball". Billed as a collaboration between two stylistically compatible rappers, BONE THUGS-N-HARMONY PRESENT: FINALLY works more like a compilation album. Layzie Bone combines his melodic sing-song flow with A.K.'s furious, rapid-fire delivery on six original studio cuts, while the remaining tracklist is balanced with an assortment of Bone Thugs group cuts. Chamillionaire, Johnny P, and Big Sloan are also featured.
Proteges of the late Erick "Eazy-E" Wright, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony quickly found a mass audience for their unique style, a predecessor of the South's screwed up movement. With a combination of syrupy R&B harmonies with gang-banger imagery and double-time, tongue-twisting rhymes reminiscent of the East Coast raggamuffin style, the five Bones (each of whom would have solo careers) earned their place in the hip-hop pantheon. "Tha Crossroads," a rare and elegiac ballad on death and the hood, became one of the biggest pop hits of the 1990s.
