Notes: La Dsseldorf: Klaus Dinger (vocals, guitar, percussion); Thomas Dinger (vocals, percussion); Andreas Schell (piano); Hans Lampe (keyboards, synthesizer, drums, percussion). Personnel: Nikolaus VanRhein (keyboards, synthesizer); Harald Konietzko (bass instrument). Audio Mixer: La Dsseldorf. Liner Note Author: Stephen Iliffe. Recording information: La Dusseldorf (06/1978-09/1978). Photographer: Klaus Dinger. VIVA, the second album by second-wave Krautrock kings La Dusseldorf, is their definitive effort. While it incorporates much less of the willfully repetitive "motorik" beat leader Klaus Dinger had pioneered with Neu! it bears a more urgent feel. The songs hew closer to rock-like structures, bearing lots of commonalities with the contemporaneous post-punk/new wave sounds emerging at the time. The 20-minute epic masterpiece "Cha Cha 2000"'s graceful, elegant sweep helped lay the groundwork for the New Romantic movement that began a couple of years later.
