Performer: Boston
Distributor: RED Distribution Notes: Boston: Brad Delp (vocals); Tom Scholz (guitar, organ); Barry Goudreau (guitar); Fran Sheenan (bass); Sib Hassian (drums). Recorded at Foxglove Studios, Watertown, Massachusetts; Capitol Studios, Hollywood, California; The Record Plant, Los Angeles, California between 1975 and 1976. Recorded on a simple 12-track recorder as a demo, it was so good that the record company released it. Tom Scholz masterminded the project in his spare time; little did he know that this record came to define AOR, and would become a hi-fi store standard demo disc. Since that time, this record-breaking debut has sold 15 million copies in its homeland. Sholtz put so much effort into making it, he has managed only three further records in 22 years. "More Than A Feeling" still chills in a corny sort of way and the harmonies are pretty impressive.
Masterminded by songwriter/guitarist Tom Scholz, Boston became one of the biggest bands of the 1970s with their immaculately produced brand of classic rock. By combining the epic scale of prog-rock with the immediate impact of killer pop hooks, Boston's debut immediately rocketed up the charts and made the band an arena-headliner, but it would take them years to issue follow-up recordings. In 2007, the emotionally troubled lead vocalist of the band, Brad Delp, died of a reported suicide at his home in New Hampshire.
