A Bay Area supergroup that brings together members of Blackalicous (Gift of Gab), Latyrx (Lateef the Truth Speaker), and Crown City Rockers (Headnodic), the Mighty Underdogs present their debut LP, DROPPIN' SCIENCE FICTION, on Definitive Jux. With an unconventional approach to traditional boom-bap, the Mighty Underdogs marry intelligently intricate rhyme schemes with consistently inventive beatwork-- courtesy of Headnodic and guest producers DJ Shadow and MF Doom. DROPPIN' SCIENCE FICTION is another well-rounded Def Jux effort that bucks industry trends, flagrantly going against the grain. As Lateef nonchalantly explains on the feel-good track "Hands in the Air," "We not keepin' it real `cause we droppin' science fiction!"
Spin (p.98) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "DROPPIN' SCIENCE FICTION eschews cutting-edge futurism for a warm, appealing tone, the result of savvy vets making grown-man hip-hop with casual ease."
Alternative Press (p.164) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[A] full-on team effort....[Headnodic] certainly stands out with an impressive array of beats that match perfectly with Gift and Lateef's top-notch rhyme skills."
