Performer: Pat Benatar
Engineer: Guy Charbonneau Producer: Nick Gerlado Distributor: (Independently by Label) Notes: LIVE FROM EARTH is a live album with two studio tracks: "Love Is A Battlefield" and "Lipstick Lies." Personnel: Pat Benatar (vocals); Neil Geraldo (guitar); Charlie Giordano (keyboards); Roger Capps (bass); Myron Grombacher (drums). Pat Benatar has long been known to possess one of the best recorded voices in rock, and judging from her 1983 in-concert set, LIVE FROM EARTH, her vocals are every bit as strong on stage. Consisting of eight live tracks and two bonus studio recordings, LIVE FROM EARTH showcases nearly all of Benatar's early-'80s hits. Standouts include such hard rockers as "Hit Me With Your Best Shot," "Promises in the Dark," and her early hit "Heartbreaker," as well as such often overlooked album tracks as "We Live for Love" and "Looking for a Stranger." Of the two studio tracks, "Love is a Battlefield" became a big hit, and was one of the first music videos to include a storyline and spoken dialogue.
The siren-voiced Pat Benatar leapt onto the music scene in the late '70s, when hard rock was still pretty much a boys' club. She made a strong impression. On in-your-face hits like "Heartbreaker" and "Hit Me With Your Best Shot," Benatar issued challenges to bad-boy lovers, and her tough-gal image was bolstered through dramatic videos on MTV for a string of hits including "We Belong" and the powerful "Love is a Battlefield." But Benatar was always much more than an image, as the many strong compositions in her songbook attest.
