This two-disc live set offers a unique look at the West Coast's premier blues-rockers, Canned Heat. The first disc contains the 1968 concert previously released as LIVE AT THE TOPANGA CORRAL (though it was actually recorded elsewhere) and features the original lineup at its peak. The second disc offers up a latter-day version of the band performing in Australia, led by new singer/guitarist Walter Trout, quite different from the early days of Canned Heat, but still keeping the blues close to their heart.
One of the premier blues bands of the 1960s, Canned Heat's boogie-tinged take on the style reached a wide audience following its appearance at Woodstock. The band grew more popular after being prominently featured in the subsequent WOODSTOCK documentary film and on the companion album. Although they never achieved superstar status, Canned Heat's influence can be heard in a wide variety of bands--from ZZ Top to Phish--who place a shuffling, bluesy groove front and center.
