Let's Groove
Performer: Earth, Wind & Fire
Distributor: Sony Music Distribution ( Notes: This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Among the most musically accomplished and commercially successful of the large-scale funk ensembles of the '70s, Earth, Wind & Fire had a meteoric rise from obscure Afro-influenced jazz-funk group to chart-topping R&B superstars. Led by their charismatic songwriter and front man, Maurice White, EWF's infectious blend of powerhouse funk rhythms and positive spiritual messages had won them mainstream popularity by the late '70s. Focused on the ensemble's signature hits of the late '70s and early '80s, PLAYLIST contains such uplifting anthems as "Shining Star" and "Let's Groove," songs whose appeal transcends musical taste, age, and demographics as only a few can.
Earth, Wind & Fire was the brainchild of musical Renaissance man Maurice White, a successful ex-session drummer who recorded with everyone from Chuck Berry to John Coltrane. Essentially an R&B group, Earth, Wind & Fire expanded its sound to include elements of jazz, rock, funk, traditional African, Latin, and just about every other kind of music. The band was noted for its elaborate stage shows and quasi-mystical thematic influence, but avoided slipping into George Clinton-like self-parody by wisely choosing to emphasize its musicianship and sharp writing. It scored hit after hit throughout the 1970s, doing much to define the sound of that decade.
