While he would wind up placing in the battle of the Davids, like many an AI runner-up, Archuleta suffered few long-term ill-effects as a budding pop artist. With an earnest, wryly mournful delivery, Archuleta was a natural for the pop love ballad and found a match in the perfectly wrought "Crush," the top ten antecedent to his debut self-titled album.
