Performer: Original Soundtrack/Barbra Streisand
Engineer: Don Meehan Producer: Wally Gold Distributor: Sony Music Distribution ( Notes: Principal cast includes: Barbra Streisand, Yves Montand. Includes liner notes by Charles Burr. All music written by Burton Lane. All lyrics written by Alan Jay Lerner. The film version of the Broadway musical On A Clear Day You Can See Forever was something of a disaster, but the soundtrack album is better because the focus is on the Burton Lane/Alan Jay Lerner songs and on the primary singer, Barbra Streisand, who has six vocals out of ten selections. Far less impressive is co-star Yves Montand, whose singing voice is as suspect as his English, such that the album is a mixed success. ~ William Ruhlmann The film was considered to be a low point in the career of Barbra Streisand, and the soundtrack is not much better. Streisand, of course, is in typically strong voice, especially on the title track, but her non-singer co-star Yves Montand also gets a lot of space on the record, making this almost a complete waste. Of course, it could have been worse: co-star Jack Nicholson also sang in scenes cut from the movie and thankfully not included here. ~ William Ruhlmann
