Notes: Jermaine Dupri's version of a remix album, Definition of a Remix, opens with a proper coast-to-coast redo of the So So Def anthem "Welcome to Atlanta" that moves from New York (P. Diddy) to St. Louis (Murphy Lee) to Los Angeles (Snoop Dogg). Of the seven tracks, three are of the R&B quartet Jagged Edge, including a remix of "Let's Get Married" that features Joe "Run" Simmons freestyling over a sample of his own "It's Like That." Actually, the best track here isn't really a remix at all; the Neptunes production of Jermaine Dupri's "Let's Talk About It 2" is just the radio edit, but no less good for it. ~ John Bush Jermaine Dupri's rapidly rising Atlanta-based So So Def label is the home to major rap talent, as evidenced here by the appearances of P Diddy, Snoop Dogg, and Da Brat, all of whom lend their considerable skills in this combination of label sampler and remix tribute album. The precocious Lil Bow Wow (in perhaps the last time he appears as a diminutive on an album) is accompanied by Tigah in a remix of "Puppy Love" from his BEWARE OF DOG album. DEFINITION OF A REMIX's finale, "Where the Party At," is an all-star affair featuring the entire So So Def crew that's a fitting climax to this solid, inclusive display of Dupri's talent roster.
