Audio Mixers: Geheimrat Gunstig; EROC. Veteran German prog-rockers Grobschnitt's 1981 album, ILLEGAL, found the band beginning to move with the times. While there are a few extended tracks here, and certainly no shortage of classic prog-style instrumental interplay, there's a more aggressive overall feel than before, and a greater concision and punchiness. At times there are even elements of hard rock/AOR thrown in, creating a feel somewhat similar to Hawkwind's contemporaneous work. Still, it wouldn't be until 1982's RAZZIA that Grobschnitt would really leave their past behind.
